IDEA
a. to create and explore a new method of conducting oral history interviews, using the concept of archiving as the framework for the interview
b. to study if using this method makes it possible for interviewees to move away from their repeated stories, making space for their other stories to be told

PROCESS
To begin, these are the definitions I used and tried to complicate:
Reframe [verb]
to frame (something) again and often in a different way
Archives [noun]
the place where records are kept
records created or received by a person, family, or organisation and preserved because of their continuing value
Inventory [noun]
a list of things
I then asked my interviewees to think about themselves as an archive and talk about what their inventory contains. The key part was to think of the archive beyond physical items. The image on the right is for context.

OUTCOMES
These are excerpts from the same interview. They are fashioned as informal audio diaries that I created as I engaged with the project. They include my narration in the beginning and then my interviewee’s.
This interview was part of the initial interviews I conducted while experimenting with the project. Since then I’ve been reworking my method and the questions for the interviews that I will conduct for my thesis. If you would like to reflect on some questions yourself, please visit Engage.
